Letter of the two General Superiors of our Sisterly Pallottine Congregations for Pentecost 2019

Come Holy Spirit

Renew the Face of the Earth

Dear Sisters,

On this special day of Pentecost, as we gather in the Community of the Pallottine Sisters in Grottaferrata, we two General Superiors of the Pallottine Family would like to greet you all with the words of the Risen Christ: Peace be with you. St. Paul exhorts us: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts … and be thankful (Col 3:15). Therefore, may thankfulness fill our hearts today toward the Holy Spirit, who so generously poured out His gifts on our Founder, St. Vincent Pallotti and bestowed on him a universal charism to bring to life the oeuvre of the Union of the Catholic Apostolate in the Church.

Let us be grateful for the birth of the Pallottine Sisters, a community of women striving for holiness (cf. OO CC, VI, 248), who since 1838, is an integral part in the original inspiration and plan of Pallotti. From the very beginning the Pallottine and Missionary Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate dedicated themselves to the service of the Church and for all people, following the footsteps of Jesus Christ, the Apostle of the Eternal Father, responding to the needs of this world by living the charism.

May God be praised also for all happenings that took place during the last months in the field of collaboration and living this moment of process of reunification of our two Sister Congregations. We would like to mention two very beautiful, historically significant meetings.

The first of them took place in December 2018 in India, where we two General Superiors came together with the two Provincial Councilors and Formators of the Indian Provinces for three days to continue to build the bridge of unity and to discuss the ways of journeying as one family in this process.

Another event was organized in Poland, Ołtarzew from 24-28 April 2019, with the participation of the two General Councils from Rome, the Major Superiors of SAC from all over the world, and the Provincial Council and local superiors of the Polish Province (in total 70 sisters). We were happy to have among us also Sr. Daniela Siniscalchi, Provincial Superior of the Italian Province of CSAC Sisters with Sr. Beatrice Cacciapaglia, Provincial Councilor. This historic event was marked by the pilgrimage to Częstochowa, Marian National Shrine of Poland, and by meetings with the Provincial Rector Fr. Zenon Hanas, SAC and Rector of the Pallottine seminary Fr. Mirosław Mejzner, SAC of the Pallottine Fathers. The participants were glad to enhance their knowledge on charism, history and discernment process of our two Congregations. Dialogue and open sharing among all on these topics gave an opportunity to reflect deeper on the process of reunification.

Dear Sisters, with these deep experiences of communion we gather with joy in the Cenacle of the Pallottine Sisters in Grottaferrata to celebrate the feast of Mary Queen of the Apostles, our Patron and Pentecost, our foundation date. Undoubtedly, this feast holds a mystery as well as powerful and charismatic experience for the entire Church, and in a special way for us, Pallottine Sisters.

It is very significant and it is a divine gift to have our foundation on the Pentecost, on the same day when the Universal Church celebrates its birth.

This event brings us all spiritually to Jerusalem, to the Upper Room, where on the first day of Pentecost, the Apostles-witnesses of the life, death and resurrection of  Christ- filled with the Holy Spirit, felt the urge to go out to people. Speaking in different languages they proclaimed the great works that God has done. The same Spirit moves our hearts also today, and calls us to go forward, to go beyond, as the Apostles did, to carry on the mission of Christ in this world (cf. Jn 17:21).

Even when we feel less in number and fragile, and that our life seems to be passing quickly - the Holy Spirit is still at work, and Jesus' words still are actual: "You will receive the power of the Holy Spirit which will come on you, and you will be my witnesses, to the end of the world (Acts 1:8).  It is Jesus who still calls each one of us to be His witness; witness of the Word and of Truth, of compassionate love, relations and prayer.

Let us raise our hearts up to heaven and pray for the deep desire to become God's new people, full of spirit and inspiration; people of the wind and the fire, who with power of faith and steadfast prayer will be able to break down any divisions and barriers, bringing harmony and peace. Let us be People of Pentecost, finding ourselves always in the Cenacle of Jerusalem, where together with Mary, Mother of Jesus,  Vincent Pallotti and all creatures we will implore the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:14) to come and to renew the face of this earth, and the face of the whole human race - that love and unity will reign.

 Spirit of holiness,

divine breath which moves the universe,

come and renew the face of the earth.

Awaken in Christians a desire for full unity,

that they may be for the world an effective sign and instrument

of intimate union with God and of the unity of the whole human race.

John Paul II

Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, Mother of the Church, and our Mother, pray for us!

* Our Way of Life *

"Our diverse talents and abilities, our differences in culture, nationality and age are assets for the richness of the community. Although we may be engaged in a variety of ministries, we all share the common call to apostolic discipleship in a community of the Catholic Apostolate of St. Vincent Pallotti."(OWL, 91)

"Christ, the Apostle of the Eternal Father, and his mission are central to our personal and community life, giving meaning and direction to our thinking, our spirituality, our prayer, action and suffering." (OWL, 19)

"As a community of disciples we are gathered around Jesus, the Apostle of the Eternal Father. Like the first disciples, we want to be with Jesus, be sent out by him and return to him to evaluate our service in the light of his presence." (OWL, 88)

"As Pallottines, it is our special charism to foster growth in faith and love among the laity, to awaken them to awareness of their apostolic call, and to cooperate with them in furthering the apostolic mission." (OWL, 21)

"Our relationships with one another should be marked by a love that bears all, believes all and hopes for all, a love that is neither conceited nor jealous, which hurts no one, nor is embittered or resentful. It is never discouraged but remains patient and kind. It rejoices with others and shares their suffering. It is with this kind of love that we should help and support one another." (OWL, 90)
