While in Rome

The International Formation Commission held its meeting in Rome from January 8 -13, 2018. The members are: Sr. Josephina D’Souza (Chairperson), Sr. Jolanta Groszczyk (Poland), Sr. Anna Kot (Cameroon), Sr. Helen Lourdusamy (India) Sr. Agripina Mmassy (Tanzania) and Sr. Catarina Tush (Belize).

At the beginning of the meeting, Sr. Izabela Świerad, Superior General oriented the members on the present situation of our entire Congregation and stressed the need of Spiritual Renewal to discover the beauty and joy of Consecrated life, as well as deepen our Pallottine charism. In the spirit of collaboration, we studied the recommendations of XX General Chapter regarding the formation theme. However, the focus of our discussion and deliberations was mainly on the Spiritual Renewal and On-Going formation of the Sisters of the entire Congregation.

Sr. Ivet Garlet, CSAC, Superior General of the Sisters of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottine Sisters) was our guest during one of the morning sessions. She enlightened us with her vast experience as formator as well as Superior. She emphasized the different dimensions of formation at all levels.  These few days helped us to discern and take concrete steps in the renewal process and to recognize the importance of being prophetic witnesses to the world.

As a special event during the week the commission members were granted the opportunity to participate in the General Audience of Pope Francis and together with thousands of people we listened to his Catechesis on the Eucharist.  After receiving the Papal blessing, the members were strengthened in their service for God.  Let us pray that we grow in hope and God’s grace and renew our evangelical enthusiasm in living our vocation.

* Our Way of Life *

"Our diverse talents and abilities, our differences in culture, nationality and age are assets for the richness of the community. Although we may be engaged in a variety of ministries, we all share the common call to apostolic discipleship in a community of the Catholic Apostolate of St. Vincent Pallotti."(OWL, 91)

"Christ, the Apostle of the Eternal Father, and his mission are central to our personal and community life, giving meaning and direction to our thinking, our spirituality, our prayer, action and suffering." (OWL, 19)

"As a community of disciples we are gathered around Jesus, the Apostle of the Eternal Father. Like the first disciples, we want to be with Jesus, be sent out by him and return to him to evaluate our service in the light of his presence." (OWL, 88)

"As Pallottines, it is our special charism to foster growth in faith and love among the laity, to awaken them to awareness of their apostolic call, and to cooperate with them in furthering the apostolic mission." (OWL, 21)

"Our relationships with one another should be marked by a love that bears all, believes all and hopes for all, a love that is neither conceited nor jealous, which hurts no one, nor is embittered or resentful. It is never discouraged but remains patient and kind. It rejoices with others and shares their suffering. It is with this kind of love that we should help and support one another." (OWL, 90)
