Meeting of the Superiors General of the Women Pallottine Congregations

Rome, 18-22 January 2019

The spirit of the Union and Pallottine charism, as well as the need for encountering St. Vincent Pallotti in the life and mission of diverse women's Congregations of Pallottine spirituality from different parts of the world, where beats the heart of the Founder, brought the inspiration to organize a sisterly gathering of Pallottine Major Superiors in Rome.

This meeting was initiated by Sr. Izabela Świerad SAC, Superior General of the Missionary Pallottines and Sr. Ivete Garlet CSAC, Superior General of the "Roman Pallottine Sisters". Their General Administrations are in Rome. They invited the Superiors General from six other communities founded with the Pallottine mission and spirituality to a meeting:

• The Hildegard Sisters of the Cath. Apostolat, founded in 1921 in Germany, represented by Sr. Dorotea Castaño, SAC

• The Theresienschwestern of the Kath. Apostolat, founded in 1928 in Germany, represented by Sr. Gabriele Berjón, SAC

• The Congregation of the Eucharistic Sisters of St. Vincent Pallotti, founded in 1951 in Italy, represented by Sr. Adalgisa Cammarata

• The Sisters of Mother of Divine Love, founded in 1957 in South Africa, represented by Sr. Paschalina Ndata

• The Cenacle Sisters of the Heart of Jesus, founded in 2002 in India, represented by Sr. Chandrika Jady

• The Superior of the Instituto Mariano del Apostolato Catolico from Bolivia was also invited. Because of their General Chapter, the Superior General was unable to participate.

All the participants were warmly welcomed by the Sisters of the Casa per Ferie, the Procura of the Pallottines Missionary, where we stayed all these days. The meetings were held in the neighboring house, their Generalate. The intentions for this event was to meet with one another and to get know each other better, not only by name but also by sight; to unite our mission spirit and strengthen our collaboration within the spirit of St. Vincent Pallotti; to hear from each other and to share a history of each community, to build up sisterly relationships. It was so impressive to hear how each Congregation faithfully lived the charism of Vincent Pallotti in their environment and how they developed. Mostly all desired to deepen the charism of the Founder.

Our program from 18 - 21 January was very tight but richly filled with spiritual conferences, discussions and sharing. First the Rector General of the Pallottine Fathers and Brothers, Fr. Jacob Nampudakam SAC, spoke about our charism: A way to be an apostle and missionary in the Church. Sr.Lilia Capretti CSAC, a former General Superior of the Roman Pallottine Sisters, spoke about Gaudete et Exsultate and the holiness of Vincent Pallotti. Fr. Romuald Uzabumwana SAC, a General Consultor of the Pallottines, spoke on the topic Importance of cooperation and dialogue in the Pallottine Communities. Together with Fr. Stanislaw Stawicki we followed the footsteps of Vincent Pallotti visiting the Pallotti's museum, his room and the chapel. With God's help and the translators, Srs. Sara Carfagna, CSAC and Maria Landsberger, SAC we were able to understand the various languages and to speak together. The entire meeting was integrated in the Triduum before the feast of St. Vincent Pallotti.

Thus, all these days we could pray together with many Union Members at the shrine of our Founder, thanking him and bringing our intentions. With gratitude in our hearts we concluded this meeting with the Solemn Eucharistic celebration at the shrine of the Founder St. V. Pallotti in SS. Salvatore in Onda and with dinner offered by the Pallottines in their Hotel Ponte Sisto. How much each one of us rejoices and is grateful for the richness of our communities, for the unity in diversity and in the inexhaustible spirituality of our Founder!

We hope that our relationship will grow and one day we will be able to meet again. A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, Sisters Izabela and Ivete, but also to all the other Sisters who contributed to making these days unforgettable.

For the love of Christ impels us… ( 2 Corinthians 5:14).

"Our diverse talents and abilities, our differences in culture, nationality and age are assets for the richness of the community. Although we may be engaged in a variety of ministries, we all share the common call to apostolic discipleship in a community of the Catholic Apostolate of St. Vincent Pallotti."(OWL, 91)

"As Pallottines, it is our special charism to foster growth in faith and love among the laity, to awaken them to awareness of their apostolic call, and to cooperate with them in furthering the apostolic mission." (OWL, 21)

"Our relationships with one another should be marked by a love that bears all, believes all and hopes for all, a love that is neither conceited nor jealous, which hurts no one, nor is embittered or resentful. It is never discouraged but remains patient and kind. It rejoices with others and shares their suffering. It is with this kind of love that we should help and support one another." (OWL, 90)
