The Sisters in Huntington
April 7, 2021 was a very special day for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. Our Bishop Mark E. Brennan came to celebrate a 100th Anniversary Liturgy at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. We could not invite too many guests because of social distancing, but there was a good mix of parishioners and St. Joseph’s administration and employees.
Among the invited guests were President and CEO of WVU Health System, Albert Wright, President and CEO of United Hospital Center, Michael Tillman. Our Parish Administrator, Fr. Edward Tetteh, SVD, concelebrated with Bishop Mark Brennan. Rev. Mr. Rue Thompson, Deacon, assisted at the altar. Sr. Francesca had chosen the readings of the day, Wednesday of the octave of Easter. The reading from Acts 3:1-10 seemed to be so fitting for the occasion.
Sister Diane Bushee, Vice President of Mission Integration, retired on March 31, 2021 after more than 60 years of service to St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Sister served in several leadership positions at SMMC, including Associate Director of Nursing. She played a key role in expansion projects and other changes that grew St. Mary's Hospital into St. Mary's Medical Center and helped foster the growth of the St. Mary's Department of Spiritual Care and Mission. Since 1990, she has served as the Vice President of Mission Integration, making sure that all administrators, clinical staff and non-clinical staff understand the importance of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
