Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead,

and Christ will shine on you"

Eph 5,14

Dear Sisters,

Like the women from Galilee in Luke’s Gospel, we accompanied Jesus in his Passion during this Lenten Season. Along with these first disciples, we now enjoy celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ. This is the supreme “surprise” of the Merciful Father, who raised Jesus from the dead!

The theme of Resurrection resounds in the motto of our upcoming General Chapter: Wake up, encounter Christ, and be a witness of joy to the world! - “Wake up, sleeper” calls St. Paul in the Letter to Ephesians, “Arise from the dead, and Christ will  shine on you”.  Eph 5,14

The Evangelist Luke gives a privileged place to the women in the Gospel. It is they who have followed Jesus from the beginning with fidelity and remained as courageous witnesses of his death and burial. These same women were the first to experience the encounter with Jesus and announce the joyful message of His Resurrection to the Apostles. Certainly these faithful disciples also suffered the drama of the Lord’s Passion in their own souls. In meeting the Risen Christ, they too were awakened to a new life, with ineffable joy that had to be shared! Together with the Apostles and Mary, Mother of Jesus, they became radiant witnesses in the young Church.

Dear Sisters, in meditating on Luke's Easter narrations, we can find many relations between us and these “Easter Women.” We too are experiencing the drama of the Cross in one way or the other on our own journey. May this Easter encounter with the Risen Lord evoke in us a new wakefulness and strength! The Church and world today expect this freshness from us, the consecrated women! May the miracle of Christ’s resurrection free us from our self-absorption and from the snares of our old fears as Pope Francis often reminds us. Let us open our eyes of the heart and meet the glance of our Lord - Rabbuni, who says to us: ”Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21

It is our Easter wish for all our Sisters that they may be strengthened anew with Christ’s presence, and will joyfully and totally commit themselves to His service. Let us carry on His Good News as missionaries of Easter Sunday morning.  May our holy Patrons, Queen of the Apostles and our holy Founder St. Vincent Pallotti, intercede for us and for our world, which is yearning for authentic testimonies of new life in Christ!   Happy Easter! Alleluia!
