Dear Sisters,

On the 19th of May we will celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost. This is also the anniversary of 175 years of the Pallottine Sisters’ Communities. May this time of awaiting for the Holy Spirit be for both of our Sister Congregations a time of fervent calling on the Holy Spirit. May it also be a time of mutual and individual reconciliation with God and with one another so that we may experience the divine radiance of the Holy Spirit upon us, which will rekindle in us our apostolic zeal.

Attached you will find a Message for this occasion addressed to you from Sister Serena Cambiaghi CSAC, the Superior General of the “Roman Pallottine Sisters”  and from me.

United with you in the Cenacle,

Sr. Izabela Swierad, SAC, Superior General

PENTECOSTE 2013

175th  ANNIVERSARY of the PALLOTTINE SISTERS

1838 - 2013

One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts. Ps 145

Dear Sisters,

We Superiors General of the two Communities of Foundation wish to greet you from Rome, the native city of our Founder St. Vincent Pallotti, whose 50th anniversary of canonization we have celebrated: the year of grace which has reawakened in all of us the deep desire for holiness. For many of our Pallottine Communities, 2013, the Year of Faith, is still the time for jubilee thanksgiving.

Another important event is on Sunday, 19 May 2013 – the Solemnity of Pentecost – the Feast so precious to us. In communion with all of you, we will celebrate the 175th Anniversary of our Congregations with a Thanksgiving Mass at 4 pm in the spiritual center of the Pallottine Family, San Salvatore in Onda, around the Shrine of St. Vincent.

We will bring to mind our roots and the history we have lived that, even having separated us, did not spare us from difficult and painful moments, because we have been accompanied by God’s Providence, which has guided us. We wish to express our gratitude to God for the blessings received, which allowed new life to come forth from hardship and suffering.

It is for years that we are acknowledging one another as sisters, daughters of the same Father and this communion is a great gift for our religious Communities and for the whole Pallottine Family.

There was always been something mysterious about our history, but the documents do not mince their words: In Pallotti’s heart, already in 1835, there was the great desire that the Society would have “an own community of saintly guided women” (OOCC VI  247-48). The year 1838 marks the beginnings of the feminine branch; Madre Battistina Nori writes that the Founder was most interested in the preparation of those who were to set up the Institute of the Sisters  (cf. “La Congregazione delle Suore dell’Apostolato Cattolico”, Marietti 1980).

Already in 1837 he began to choose among the collaborators those, who were willing and able to acquire “the fullness and the spirit of Jesus Christ” (OOCC 4, 24-26). With the Rescript of the ecclesiastical authority from May 29 and 31, 1838, Pallotti intensified the spiritual preparation of the future Sister, until the feast of Pentecost.

Saint Vincent had wished to initiate the Foundation on Pentecost Sunday, but for various reasons he had to postpone it to the following day.  How beautiful it is to know that we were born from the power of the Spirit, which descended on Mary, the other women, and the apostles, who were united in prayer! The aspirations of Saint Vincent are still current and the Spirit continues to send us everywhere to proclaim the Good News.

We wish to express our thanksgiving for these 175 years, by offering our personal and communitarian witness as an efficient means to evangelize and to reveal to the world the person of Jesus Christ and the beauty of a life lived in communion with God.

May each sister and Community join us in thanking the Lord who allowed us to walk through this long road, which was accompanied and sustained by His Infinite Love and Mercy, and which has made true the certainty of the Founder: “the Congregation is blessed by God and will go ahead”.

We give thanks to our patroness, Mary, the Queen of Apostles, for her maternal protection and entrust to her our today and our future.  We ask the Holy Spirit for the fullness of His gifts so that we may be able to live constantly according to the ideals of our common Founder.
