Rome

▪ Our Sisters participated in the solemn Celebrations of the Nativity of the Lord, being reassured of God’s infinite love which we are called to share with each other. Pope Francis in his Message at the Urbi et Orbi urged all around the world to look for Jesus in the faces of little children suffering in war-torn and conflict-riven regions from the Middle East to Africa to the Korean Peninsula. He said that "the winds of war are blowing in our world and an outdated model of development continues to produce human, societal and environmental decline."

▪ On the day of the Solemnity of Mother of God,  the new year message of the Holy Father was titled on  World Day of Peace as “Migrants and Refugees: Men and Women in Search of Peace.”   Let us unite ourselves with the entire Church to pray for all those fleeing from war and hunger, or forced by discrimination, persecution, poverty and environmental degradation to leave their homelands.

▪ On Christmas Day 3 communities of the Pallottine Sisters in Rome were invited by the Sisters of the Procura to celebrate this beautiful day together. After a festive dinner we sang Christmas carols and enjoyed the richness of our community

▪ Sr. Izabela Świerad and Sr. Honorata Lyimo travelled to South Africa. The reason for this journey was to visit the communities, participate in the Provincial Chapter and conduct a financial visitation.

▪ We were happy to welcome Fr. Matthew Kozhuppakalam, MSFS from a Tanzanian mission who paid a short visit to us, and Sr. Mary McNulty, SAC, General Mission Procurator from England, who came for a spiritual renewal and celebrated Christmas in Rome. 

▪ Sr. Josephina D’ Souza participated in the Annual General  Membership Meeting of the Indian priest and nuns who are working in the General Curia, Rome.  It was held in the Generalate of the  Pallottine Fathers and Brothers. During the Introduction Fr. Jan Kupka briefed the members about St. Vincent Pallotti and the Charism of the  Pallottine Family. There were 35 members who together, reflected on the presentation “Financial Accountability and Transparency in Religious Congregations” given by Fr. Gerald Dwyer, SAC, General Treasurer. The  meeting ended with Holy Eucharist and grand agape with New Year wishes for 2018.

▪ On 20th Sr. Anna Małdrzykowska participated in the Meeting of the Association for General Treasurers. There were around 60 members. Sr. Anna together with one Salesian and one Augustian    Father during the panel of experts shared of financial resources in our Congregation.

▪ General Council was invited by our Sisters in Moncenisio to their community for a Mass of Thanksgiving ending the year. Fr. Wojciech Jasinski, MIC, celebrated the Eucharist. Afterwards we had meal together and enriched sharing of thoughts and desires for the New Year.

Germany

▪  As every year, the first Advent weekend a bazaar was held in the parish of St. Boniface in Munich for the benefit of our missions. The collection of more than 7,300 Euro will be sent for the new building of the convent in Belize City.

▪ The ground-breaking ceremony for the annex building of House Felizitas at Limburg, took place on December 18th. The mayor of Limburg,  Marius Hahn, the executive director of the regional Caritas Organisation, Max Prümm, architect Werner Schmitt and Christian Frücht as a chairman of St. Vinzenz-Pallotti-Stiftung took part in it.

▪ On December 19, scouts of the parish in Limburg brought the Light of Peace from Bethlehem. Every year, since 1986, scouts from Austria inflame a light at the Grotto of the Nativity at Bethlehem, which is passed on in many European countries to remind the Advent and Christmas message.

USA

▪ Sr. Francesca and Chaplain Gary, from the Pastoral Care Department of St. Joseph’s Hospital of Buckhannon, are now holding a weekly inter-denominational prayer service each Wednesday at noon in the hospital’s chapel.  “A Prayer Oasis” is a service that includes prayer, music and a scripture reading.  It is designed to provide employees and the public a time to experience God’s presence of peace and hope in the midst of stress and fear that may at times be a part of their lives.

▪ The Members of St. Stephen Parish, to which Sr. Mary Grace Barile has been an active member since its establishment, took time after Sunday Mass on December 17th and delivered 15 Christmas food baskets to needy families in the area, so they too could enjoy a special Christmas meal with their family.  ▪ St. Mary’s Infirmary staff held a fundraiser on December 1st. the purpose of this event was to help our sisters in Belize. They raised over $1,000 by selling raffle tickets as well as having a lunch of Hot Dogs, chips, cookie and drink for sale.  

Belize

▪ On November 26th we conducted a Praise and Worship Service in Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Novitiate Nazareth.  It was conducted in honor of the feast of Christ the King in order to praise Jesus Christ for His Kingly blessings and graces in community and families.  It was an occasion for all of us to claim once again the sovereign power of Jesus in all matters of our lives. 

▪ On December 1st  our parish community was invited for the Ecumenical gathering of the Lighting of the Christmas Tree celebration at Dick Service Station in Punta Gorda. Sr. Catarina Tush and Sr. Inacinha Fernandes, along with 3 ladies of our parish sang Christmas carols and greeted the people.  The Guest Speaker, Mrs. Susette, the eminent Pastor invited the other Pastors and the two Pallottine Sisters on the stage and called on the people gathered to stretch their hands and implore God`s blessings upon them while sheoffered a prayer.  ▪ On 3rd December, the community had its annual Bazaar. Many parishioners, benefactors, well- wishers and Union members helped us in different ways to make the bazaar a success. We had different kinds of booths prepared from our own kitchen and articles donated by our generous benefactors, parishioners and also from our Pallotti Convent Community. With God`s blessings we had good success which can sustain our mission.

England / Tanzania

▪ During the month of December we were happy to have several visitors in our communities. Among them was Mr. Sean McNulty, the former teacher of Pallotti Secondary school who had been a role model to our school for 22 years. He visited all our communities in Tanzania and some of his friends before flying to South Africa. We were honored to have Fr. Norbert Mukabwa,  a Pallottine Father, in our community to celebrate his thanksgiving Mass after his ordination. He thanked the sisters for supporting him during his formation  in priesthood and for their spiritual accompaniment.

▪ On 6th our Postulants in the Novitiate house-Polisingisi, Arusha, started their retreat, directed by Fr. Dariusz Szymborski, the Franciscan Conventual Friars.                                                                                                                 

 ▪ On 8th Solemnity of Immaculate Conception was marked by the history in our Province, where our first group of the Postulants of the International Novitiate were accepted as novices by Sr. Basilisa Jacob, Provincial Superior. The ceremony was conducted during morning prayers and thereafter, the celebration of the Holy Eucharist presided by Fr. Evarist Nyaki the Novice Master of the Conventual Friars and concelebrated by Fr. Paul Jair Dos Santos, SAC the spiritual director of the Pallottine philosophical students.

Rwanda/Congo

▪ On the 3rd of December, Sisters from Gikondo community welcomed the new Apostolic Nuncio, Bishop Andrzej Jozwowicz, native of Poland who arrived in Kigali on June 28, 2017. He was accompanied by the Secretary Fr. Plikulis and shared with the community a fraternal lunch.

 ▪ About 14 Sisters, especially junior sisters attended a seminar on the stages of psychosocial development and related crisis which could have a positive or negative outcome for personality development and to the maturation of our religious vocation in a particular way. This was prepared in terms of ongoing formation led by Fr. Fidele Dushimiyimana from the  Kbgayi Diocese.

▪ Sr. Marta Litawa made a short visit to our Community of Kyabakuza/ Uganda to assess the situation of the new mission.  She was accompanied by Fr. Stanislas Filipek, SAC and on their wayback, they made a pilgrimage at Namugongo Shrine, the place of Ugandan Martyrs.

▪ Sr. Cécile Bimenyimana, the Principal of St. Vincent Pallotti School in Masaka went to Uganda with 7 children from the school for an East African Competitions in English Spelling. The competitions took place at Lugogo with 63 participants from six East African countries: Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Southern Sudan and Tanzania. Three children from our school were amongst the top ten and received awards.

South Africa

▪ On the 10th of December it was a joyful day for all of us to welcome our special guests, Sr. Izabela Świerad, Superior General and Sr. Honorata Lyimo, General Councilor, who came from Rome accompanied by Ms. Ingrid Hannappel, a member of our International Finance Commission – from Limburg Germany.

▪ 11th December 2017, we began our Provincial Chapter with the theme, Living in Community.  The opening Mass was presided by His Grace Archbishop Stephen Brislin, and concelebrated with the Pallottine Fathers and diocesan priests. The Archbishop in his homily beautifully connected the Advent season to the event of a Provincial Chapter. He encouraged the sisters to look for new ways, to trust, to be witnesses of the Word, to be strong in faith, and courageous, as our first missionaries. He also expresses his sincere gratitude for the presence of the Pallottine Missionary Sisters in the Archdiocese of Cape Town.

▪ The new team of Provincial Council was appointed: Sr. Annemarie Niehsen Provincial Superior, Sr. Prabha Varghese, Vice Provincial, Sr. Elizabeth Hartinick and Sr. Adolphina Kilu, the Councillors.

India

▪ All the communities were able to express the joy of Christmas in different ways. Besides all the spiritual preparations, Sisters visited many poor families and distributed food and clothing. In Odissa kinder Garten Children, and in Mumbai Senior Citizens Home, organized live crib shows in the villages and streets to deliver the message of peace. Many Non-Christians appreciated the gesture of spreading the joy of Christmas and collaborated with the Sisters to make this event successful.
